Kushboo M.D vs. Thangar Bachan M.L.A

Except for couple of blogs I am involved every blog which is remotely related to India have written about this issue. So, I thought of bringing this issue to our blog too.

Well for those gossip/rumor mill illiterates among us, here is the issue.
India today surveyed people all over India for AIDS awareness and asked some celebrities about their opinion on the matters surveyed. One of the issues was pre-marital sex. Since, survey said (co-incidentally, Kushboo’s program on Jaya TV is Tamil equivalent of Family Feud, in which every thing decided based on survey – well I digress) pre-martial sex was happening thing around, she said, it is not uncommon. But people who have pre-marital sex should use proper protection. And she added some more along the lines that it is very common these days.

Latest update: There are around dozen cases put on Kushboo stating that she insulted Tamil people all around TamilNadu. And court after few sessions issued a Non-bail able arrest warrant against her. (All for expressing her opinion about some issue)
In yesterday’s news they showed that women’s liberation group throwing eggs and tomatoes. (I wish they threw omelet instead! – Oops! Did I say that aloud?)

When this 15 minutes (or days) time was over, Suhashini said in one of the speech that Tamils should be ashamed for what they did. And now the entire group started chasing her instead. And when you thought she will stand up and take the fight, she apologized immediately.

And all this issue started with Kushboo actively getting involved in making Thangar Bachan (director of movie called Azhagi – which was critically acclaimed) apologize for his comment that any actress who have only money in her mind is like a prostitute.

Now, Thangar Bachan is from a same caste as Thiruma Valavan. This Thiruma valavan and Ramadass (Yes, The same guy who said naming movies in English was NOT right) were the key political figures behind Kushboo episode.

(Hmmppph! I left so many smaller threads just to stay on core issues.)

Lots and lots of questions and comments come to my mind. But let me open this for others to comment. I will certainly add my comment and another retort I read in web later.

  1. I read about this too and saw it in SunTV news. The whole thing is a big fiasco. And I still dont understand how Kushboo could have insulted Tamilians by saying pre-marital sex is fine.And we have every single tele-serial showing pre-marital sex, extra-marital affairs and bigamy and the same people love watching those. Anyway,I think it is a bit too cheap on these women's liberation part and the govt too to have ordered for her arrest.

  2. Kushboo Vazhga...Kushboo Vazhga... Kushboovai Igazhndhavanai En Thaai Thaduthalum Viden.. Prachana Panna Prachanai Dhaan..:)

    I would second survivor's thoughts about the tele-serials. Following serials and their focus, in the order of telecast...

    Kolangal -> Bigamy, Pre-marital Sex
    Selvi -> Bigamy, Illicit affair
    Manaivi -> Bigamy, Polygamy, Illicit affair
    Kanavarukkaga -> Pre-marital Sex, Bigamy

    Interestingly, all these serials not only show it, but show how to justify it. It is funny why people are not against these... I think it is politically motivated. That said, Kushboo didnt have any logic to tell Thangar bachan that he was wrong either.

    I always like to think of actresses as glorified prostitutes...nothing more, nothing less... (there may be remote exceptions though...)

  3. whatever is happening.. those are cheap ploys created by the stupid-worthless politicians. Trying to gain from any possible situation to take revenge on opposite party people (or people who are associated with opp. parties)

    Unless, each individual starts to think for himself (which is not going to happen) these kinds of things are going to happen again and again.

  4. It is a free country. Anyone should be able to express their opinions. To me Kushboo was expressing the truth as she saw it. I see nothing wrong in it.

    I was quite surprised by the furor. It shows how much importance people place on Kushboo's account of things. Maybe that is the price celebrities pay, they are judged for everything they do or say.

    I like the point made earlier about Tamil TV Serials. Everything is unjust and there is no "anandham" in any of it. I don't understand why people are so addicted to seeing machinations and injustice on TV, when they don't want to see any of that in real life.

    As for the comment that all actresses are prostitutes, I disagree.

  5. I didnt mean to insult 'all actresses'. I guess that was my mistake. Anyhow, I would say that anyone who act as an aphrodisiac into satisfying the hedonic pleasures of people for money is a prostitute. Not that prostitution is a derogatory term. It is a legitimate business. And, I think a lot of actress, especially in tamil movies just do that...Not just in movies, but outside of it too... Somehow, in the process, they get glorified as well...That, I dont understand. So, I stay by my word. Nothing more, nothing less... I would gladly agree to disagree with any disagreements.

  6. Mindframes,
    Yes, we can definitely agree to disagree.But, just FYI..to quote the definition of a prostitute in M-W
    "to offer indiscriminately for sexual intercourse especially for money" . I am not sure if that is exactly what you had intended. But, thinking about your definition..I recently saw Jack Nicholson naked in a movie called "something gotta give" and that was an aphrodisiac too. So, that would mean he is a glorified prostitue after all. We have male prostitutes also, you know.

  7. I dont deny that... So, do we agree that we have both male and female prostitutes ?

  8. As for provinding sex for money or movie role, it is wide known fact that most of the actress (except for rich actresses and actresses from family in the film business) had to go through casting couch.

    It is unfortunately a male dominated industry.

    But, I would say, going for cheap compromises with "creativity" (Directors, actors etc) for the sake of big money is not too different.

  9. Coming back to what survivor said, I really wonder how she could visualise Jack Nicholson in a sexually appealing way, especially for that nude scene... Mind works in mysterious ways...;)

    I perfectly agree with brainwaves' comments...
